Tuning the Ukulele to itself:
Self tuning a Ukulele is more complex than tuning most string instruments, as the string pitches are not sequential. Arranging the strings sequentially according to pitch (1 being the lowest pitch, string 1 being the topmost string on the instument) gives the following pattern:
- 1 = string 2
- 2 = string 3
- 3 = string 1
- 4 = string 4
- C string [fret 7] = G4
- C string [fret 4] = E4
- E string [fret 5] = A4
- C string [fret 7] = G4
- E string [fret 8] = C5
- A string [fret 7] = E5
It is possible to tune the strings to each other according to the following pattern
It is possible to use an octave tuning method of sorts on the ukulele, except between the G and C strings, which must be tuned according to equal pitch
It is not possible to use harmonic tuning methods on the Ukulele
