This page contains the tuner and tuning details for Mandolin. In order to use the tuners, simply click on the string buttons and a tuning note will play. For best results ensure you are using desktop speakers – onboard laptop or mobile phone speakers will not be very effective for this page.
If the tuners do not work properly, Internet Explorer users may have to enable Javascript and Firefox users will have to make sure they have Quicktime installed. Alternatively you could all do yourselves a favour and install the Google Chrome browser.
You may also experience difficulties if you are viewing these pages from a restrictive network
String pitches (Low to High)
- G3, 196.00Hz
- D4, 293.67Hz
- A4, 440.00Hz
- E5, 659.25Hz
Tuning the Mandolin to itself:
You can fret each string to find the pitch of the next string:
- G string [Fret 7] = D4
- D string [Fret 7] = A4
- A string [Fret 7] = E5
You can fret each string to find the octave above the pitch of the string below it:
- D string [Fret 5] = G4
- A string [Fret 5] = D5
- E string [Fret 5] = A5
The harmonic tuning methods mentioned for Guitar and Bass Guitar are not applicable to the Mandolin as the tuning pattern does not allow them.
